MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

Worldbeater pannier systems, are made individually, to each customers specification, so production doesn’t start, until you have decided exactly what you want, and have confirmed your order. Only then will I start to build your luggage system for you. This might not be the fastest way of making aluminium luggage systems, but it has to be the best way, as far as you, the customer is concerned. Only this way, do you get exactly what you want. No other company offers a service, anything like this.

The actual pannier bodies and lids, are made from a very high quality aluminium (5251/H22. NS4). This is the ideal aluminium, for fabrications of this sort, as it is incredibly strong, light and works well when folded. The bodies and lids are then laser cut to your dimensions. This is an excellent method of cutting aluminium, as there is very little heat build up during the process, thus avoiding any distortion that heat can cause.

The laser cut blanks, are then CNC folded, to the exact angles that are required to form your panniers and lids. They are now ready for the next process, which is welding.

Welding the formed blanks together by hand, is by far the best method of final construction. It is possible to have them machine welded, but all a machine can do is weld, whereas a good welder will see every single thing, that is happening throughout the duration of the welding process. This avoids any impurities contaminating the welds, that a machine would simply miss. TIG welding is the only method used in the construction of your pannier system. It provides excellent penetration, very little distortion from heat build up and leaves a good reinforcing cap, which adds to the strength of the finished weld. The reinforcing cap, is the outside of the weld, that looks like a line of fish scales. Most companies, grind the reinforcement off the finished product, all this does, is remove strength from the weld. If you look at any motorcycle chassis, made with aluminium extrusions and castings, you will see that the reinforcing cap is left untouched, this is so the weld carries ALL the strength it is intended to have.

The panniers and lids are then anodised, in your choice of colour. This process, provides and excellent finish, which is not only corrosion resistant, but prevents your luggage from dusting against bare or painted aluminium. If you have used aluminium luggage before, especially the unpainted and untreated type, you will have had to have put up with all your belongings being covered in a white/grey dust after every trip. This doesn’t happen with an anodised surface, although sharp, or metal objects, will eventually damage the surface.

All the mounting hardware, is made from 5mm and 2.5mm, 304 grade, stainless steel. Again, this is laser cut to the precise size and profile, and then CNC bent to fit the motorcycle exactly. The rear cross mountings are then TIG welded to the main side frames, to complete the assembly. The stainless steel hardware, is supplied as finished, which means a dull grey overall finish. This can then be refinished by yourself, if you choose to polish it or paint it, although, there really is no need.

To mount the hardware to your motorcycle, and the panniers to the hardware, all fasteners and fixings are supplied. These are all in stainless steel as well.

The hinges are also hand made out of stainless steel, and fixed to the panniers with stainless steel fasteners.

The locking catches are also 100% stainless steel, and fixed with stainless steel fasteners. These are the only part of the whole system, that are brought in from outside, and are the only product that I was happy with using myself, and are VERY secure.
